Dyma daith gerdded ryngweithiol fydd yn edrych ar y profiad benywaidd o fyw yn Nyffryn Peris yn ystod oes aur y ddiwydiant llechi. Y bwriad ydy canolbwyntio ar hanes pum person mewn pum lleoliad arwyddocaol yn eu bywydau. Unigolion digon cyffredin oedden nhw yn y bôn ond mae cofnod ohonynt wedi goroesi am eu bod wedi ymddwyn yn ‘anghyffredin’ neu’n groes i ddisgwyliadau eu hoes. Dw i’n awyddus i blethu’r presennol â’r gorffennol ac ystyried sut y gwnaeth trigolion Llanberis ymateb i’w gweithredoedd bryd hynny yn ogystal â chwestiynu sut y base ein cymdeithas ni yn eu trin erbyn heddiw. I sicrhau cyrhaeddiad ehangach dw i’n gobeithio postio blas o’r hanesion trwy flychau post y lleoliadau perthnasol.

Dw i eisiau annog y rheiny sy’n ymuno ar y daith i roi eu hunain yn esgidiau’r bobl sy’n cael eu trafod ac i ddilyn ôl eu troed yn llythrennol. Pentref diwydiannol oedd Llanberis ac yn sgil hynny rwy’n awyddus i ystyried sut berthynas oedd gan yr unigolion yma – os o gwbl – gyda’r tir. Efallai nad oedd neb yn adnabod tirwedd a llwybrau’r dyffryn yn well nag y weddw, Margaret Hughes, 46 Goodman St, Llanberis a fu’n dosbarthu llythyrau’r post brenhinol yn Llanberis – galwedigaeth anghyffredin iawn i ferch yn 1911.

Bydd gofod hefyd i ystyried ein cysyniad o rywedd (gender) hefyd. Sut y base William Thomas Rowlands, prentis yn Chwarel Dinorwig, yn dewis disgrifio ei hun ar ôl iddo gael ei ganfod yn euog o ddwyn dillad merched a’u gwisgo’n gyhoeddus?

Interpreting the Valley: Women's Pathways

This interactive walk will look at the female experience of living in Dyffryn Peris during the golden age of the slate industry. The intention is to focus on the history of five people in five significant locations in their lives. They were basically quite ordinary individuals but a record of them has survived because they behaved 'unusual' or contrary to the expectations of their age. I am keen to interweave the present with the past and consider how the residents of Llanberis responded to their actions at that time as well as questioning how our society treats them today. To ensure a wider reach I hope to post a taste of the stories through the mailboxes of the relevant locations.

I want to encourage those who join the journey to put themselves in the shoes of the people being discussed and to literally follow in their footsteps. Llanberis was an industrial village and as a result I am keen to consider what relationship these individuals had - if any - with the land. Perhaps no one knew the landscape and paths of the valley better than the widow, Margaret Hughes, 46 Goodman St, Llanberis who delivered the royal mail letters in Llanberis - a very unusual occupation for a woman in 1911.

There will also be space to consider our concept of gender. How did base William Thomas Rowlands, an apprentice at Dinorwig Quarry, choose to describe himself after he was found guilty of stealing women's clothes and wearing them in public?

Taith Tywyrch : Turf Walking
Bydd nifer o deithiau cerdded dan arweiniad Emily Meilleur yn cael eu cynnal dros y misoedd nesaf (Ebrill – Medi 2024) gan gario tywyrchen trwy gwahanol llefydd yn Nyffryn Peris. Bydd y tyweirch yn cael eu cario ar y pen yn ddelfrydol, ond gellir eu dal yn y dwylo, bag, basged neu boced.
Trwy osod y tyweirch ar ein pennau rydym yn ennill profiad gwahanol o bridd, gallwch chi deimlo ei bwysau, pa mor llonydd y mae'n rhaid i chi gadw'ch pen i gadw safle'r tywyrch arno, gallwch chi deimlo yr oerni y pridd llaith ac yn lle ein traed yn gwasgu yn erbyn y pridd, y mae yn pwyso ar goron ein penau.
Several walks led by Emily Meilleur will take place over the next few months (April – September 2024) carrying turves in differnt locations in Dyffryn Peris. The turves will be carried ideally on the head, but can be held in the hands, bag, basket or pocket.
By placing the turf on our heads we are gaining a different experince of soil, you can feel the weight of it, how still you must keep your head to retain the turfs postion on it, you can feel the coolness of the damp soil and instead of our feet pressing against the soil, it is pressing on the crown of our heads.

2. Mudiad Tywyrch : Turf Movement

Bydd hwn yn weithdy dawns dan arweiniad Emily & Irene Gonzalez i archwilio teimladau a symudiadau corfforol a gynhyrchir gan dywarchen a gymerwyd o leoliadau gwahanol yn Nyffryn Peris. Bydd y cyfranogwyr yn cael eu gwahodd i wisgo brown a gwyrdd, i adlewyrchu prif liwiau tyweirch, pridd a glaswellt.

Mae symudiad y tyweirch yn ceisio rhyng-gysylltu tyweirch o wahanol leoliadau trwy ddod â phobl ynghyd trwy dechnegau gan ddefnyddio symudiad dilys a dull systemig. Mae gan bob tir rinweddau, priodewddau a chyfansoddion penodol sy'n eu diffinio o safbwynt ecolegol. Maent yn cyfathrebu'n fewnol ac yn allanol rhyngddynt a bodau eraill mewn ffordd symbiotig.

Hoffem eich gwahodd i brofi'r rhyngweithiadau a'r cyfathrebiadau hyn yn greadigol trwy deimlad, gan ddefnyddio symudiad, cyffwrdd, a delweddu mewnol. Man agored lle bydd y gwahanol dywarchen a ddyrennir yn ofodol yn caniatáu inni symud yn rhydd rhyngddynt a bodau dynol eraill. Daw systemau a dealltwriaeth newydd yn fyw yn yr union adegau hynny lle rydym yn agored i brofiad unigryw.

This will be a dance workshop led by Emily & Irene Gonzalez to explore feelings and physical movements generated by turves taken from differnt locations in Dyffryn Peris. Participants will be invited to wear brown and green, to reflect the main colours of turf, soil and grass.

The turf movement seeks to interconnect turves from different locations by bringing together with people through techniques using authentic movement and a systemic approach. Each land has specific qualities, properties and constituents which defines them from an ecological perspective. They communicate internally and externally between them and other beings in a symbiotic way.

We would like to invite you to creatively experience these interactions and communications through sensation, using movement, touch, and internal visualization. An open space where the different turfs spacially allocated will allow us to move freely between them and other human beings. New systems and understanding come alive in those very moments where we are open to a unique experience.

3. Tywyrch a'n Hawliau i wreiddio a thir: Turf and our Rights to root and land

Bydd hwn yn weithdy a gynhelir gyda Lucy Finchett-Maddock athrawes y Gyfraith i archwilio ein dealltwriaeth am fannau cyhoeddus a phreifat a’n hawliau i roi gwreiddiau i lawr.

Tarddiad gweithredoedd eiddo cymunedol fel mynediad at fwyd a thanwydd trwy hawl hynafol Turbary yw clod o bridd, gan ganiatáu i bobl dorri tyweirch neu fawn o gors.

This will be a workshop held with Lucy Finhchett-Maddock a teacher of Law to explore our undertanding of public and private places and our rights to put down roots.

A clod of earth is the orgin of title deeds of communal property such as access to food and fuel through the ancient right of Turbary, allowing people to cut turf or peat from a bog.

Gwasanaeth Bws S2 Bus Service

Femke van Ghent & Lucy Finchett-Maddock

S2 Bus project is a social art project where we, Femke van Gent and Luce FM will travel on the bus between Bangor and Nant-Peris. We will be meeting people on the bus, explain about the Stori'r Tir project and talk to them about their stories. We will look for their relation with the land, their memories of places where they liked playing, their (family) stories and whatever comes up. We will be informing them about other projects in Stori'r Tir and suddenly they realise they have become part of the project themselves!

In the final sharing (in September) you will find traces of the conversations with our fellow bus passengers through the medium of sound and visual. Who knows you might come across these two red ladies on the bus! We look forward to meeting you.

Mae prosiect Bws S2 yn brosiect celf gymdeithasol lle byddwn ni, Femke van Gent a Luce FM yn teithio ar y bws rhwng Bangor a Nant-Peris. Byddwn yn cwrdd â phobl ar y bws, yn esbonio am brosiect Stori'r Tir ac yn siarad â nhw am eu straeon. Yn y rhaniad olaf (ym mis Medi) fe welwch olion o'r sgyrsiau gyda'n cyd-deithwyr bws trwy gyfrwng sain a gweledol. Pwy a wyr efallai y dewch ar draws y ddwy ddynes goch yma ar y bws! Edrychwn ymlaen at gwrdd â chi.

Tirweddau Coll - Lost Landscapes

Bydd ein cyfraniad ni yn edrych ar ‘TIRWEDDAU COLL’ yr ardal ac yn gofyn sut tirwedd oedd yma pan dechreuodd bobol setlo yma filoedd o flynyddoedd yn ôl.

Hefyd, byddwn yn edrych ar pa anifeiliaid fyddai wedi bod yn bresennol ac a fu unrhyw chwaedlau ohonynt wedi eu trosglwyddo i ni dros yr holl filenia. Ac yn wir – oes unrhyw un ar ôl?

Hoffwn wneud hyn trwy cynnal cyfres o deithiau, creu sgyrsiau gweledol a sgyrsiau i ysgolion.

Our contribution will be looking at ‘Lost Landscapes’ and asks what the landscape would have looked like when people first started to settle here thousands of years ago.

What animals would have been present and have there been any myths and legends of them handed down to us over the millennia. Indeed…what native animals and plants are there left?

This will be done by arranging walks and school visits.

Rwy'n bwriadu casglu atgofion plentyndod o dros 70 mlynedd yn ôl yn Nhŷ Gwyn, dilyn rhai o 30 mlynedd yn ôl a hyd yn oed cyffwrdd ar y drwy bersbectif plant gyda phrofiadau fy mhlant fy hun yn Nhŷ Gwyn, Nant Peris. Mae ein hatgofion o dyfu fyny yn Nhŷ Gwyn yn hudolus. Mae gen i ddau o blant erbyn hyn a hoffwn rannu atgofion plentyndod Tŷ Gwyn gyda nhw ac eraill drwy ddal hanes atgofion plentyndod o'r tŷ a'r ochr Bryn o'i amgylch. Y Goblins oedd yn byw yn yr ogofâu tu ôl i'r tŷ, y pentref hen a wnaeth ar gyfer y gemau perffaith o 'dŷ bach', Y clychau'r gog a greodd bwll nofio hudol yn ogystal â pharc dŵr Barbies sef yr afon wrth ty.

Mae hanes yn cael ei weld mewn sawl ffordd ac yn aml mae'n ffeithiol heb yr elfen bywyd go iawn bwriadaf ddal hanes 'Hanesion Tŷ Gwyn' Trwy greu llyfr plant hawdd ei ddarllen – wedi'i ddarlunio'n greadigol.

I intend to collect childhood memories from over 70 years ago at Ty Gwyn, followed ones from 30 years ago and even touch on the through a children’s perspective with my own children’s experiences at Ty Gwyn, Nant Peris. Our memories of growing up in Ty Gwyn are magical. I now have two children and would love to share the childhood memories of Ty Gwyn with them and others through capturing the history of our childhood memories of the house and its surrounding hillside. The Goblins that lived in the caves behind the house, the lost village that made for the perfect games of ‘little house’, The bluebells that created a magical swimming pool as well as the Barbies water park that was the river.

History is viewed in many ways and is often purely factual without the real life element I intent to capture the history of ‘The tales of Ty Gwyn’ through creating an easy read – creatively illustrated childrens book.

Autochthonnau - Ensemble Stori’r Tir

Mae Autochthonnau yn brosiect cerddorol sy’n archwilio sut y gallem gasglu ensembles o chwaraewyr yn Nyffryn Peris i ddarparu cyfeiliant sonig i adrodd straeon. Prin y w'r profiadau sy'n fwy cyfareddol na stori dda, wedi'i hadrodd yn dda. Gall cerddoriaeth a sain gyfoethogi chwedl, gan roi cyflymder i’r plot, gydag alawon o’r dirwedd a lleisiau sy’n lliwio cymeriadau a chreaduriaid.

Mae awtochthony yn golygu rhywbeth sydd o le, cymysgedd o hunan (auto-) a Daear (-chtonig). Ychwanegwch rai tonnau, dyfrllyd, daearegol, a chlywadwy ac mae gennym Autochthonnau.

Nod y prosiect yw casglu grŵp bach o chwaraewyr ar gyfer gweithdai ar sut y gellid paru alawon, effeithiau sain a dawnsfeydd lleol gyda rhai o’r chwedlau a gyflwynir gan gyfranogwyr eraill Stori’r Tir. Ei nod yw dysgu sut y gall offerynnau, lleisiau, recordiadau a phrosesu digidol ddramateiddio naratif, tra'n darparu ar gyfer amrywiadau a deinameg perfformiadau byw.

Mae arian wedi'i gyllidebu i gynnal 4 chwaraewr mewn 3 sesiwn, gan gynnwys peiriannydd i gofnodi canlyniadau. Bydd y sesiwn olaf yn ymchwilio i sut i gyfleu cyfarwyddyd cerddorol i chwaraewyr ychwanegol fel y gall y grŵp ehangu i ymgorffori ensembles o wahanol feintiau.

Bydd y grŵp craidd o chwaraewyr yn cael eu dwyn ynghyd gan Ellen Davies (cyfansoddwr, sielydd) a Tim Cumine (aml-offerynnwr, gwneuthurwr clarinetau), gydag Angharad Owens, Marie-Claire Howarth ac Ed Straw yn cefnogi. Mae gwneuthurwyr sain straeon eraill yn ymgynnull yn yr adenydd.

Autochthonnau is a musical project exploring how we might gather ensembles of players in Dyffryn Peris to provide sonic accompaniment to storytelling. There are few more captivating experiences than a good story, well told. Music and sound can enrich a tale, pacing the plot with tunes from the landscape and voices that colour characters and creatures.

Autochthony means a thing which is of a place, a mixture of self (auto-) and Earth (-chthonic). Add some waves (tonnau), watery, geological, and audible and we have Autochthonnau.

The project aims to gather a small group of players to workshop how local melodies, sound effects and dances might be matched to some of the tales presented by other Stori’r Tir participants. It aims to learn how instruments, voices, recordings and digital processing can dramatize narrative, while accommodating the variations and dynamic of live performance.

Funds have been budgeted to host 4 players in 3 sessions, including an engineer to record results. The final session will investigate how to communicate musical instruction to additional players so that the group can extend to incorporate ensembles of varying sizes.

The core group of players will be gathered by Ellen Davies (composer, cellist) and Tim Cumine (multi-instrumentalist, llechiffon maker), with Angharad Owens, Marie-Claire Howarth and Ed Straw in support, and other makers of story-sounds gathering in the wings.

Bws i Lanbabo

Mae rhan o gwreiddiau Deiniolen, Dyffryn Peris, yn deillio o Lanbabo, Ynys Mon. Mae’n rhan annatod o hunaniaeth unigryw y pentra - a hyd at heddiw, gelwir pobl Deiniolen eu gilydd yn ‘Llanbabs’! Yr rheswm am hyn ydy bod llawer o bobl wedi dod yn wreiddiol o Lanbabo i fyw yn Neiniolen ac i weitihio yn chwarel Dinorwig. Mae’n debygol bod hyn wedi digwydd ar rhyw adeg pan oedd tyfiant mawr yn y diwydiant llechi yn Nyffryn Peris, a llawer o swyddi ar gael…

Ond beth arall sy’n rhan o’r stori? Pam oedd pobl eisiau gadael eu pentref a’u cartref ar Ynys Mon? Oes elfen o hyn - e.e. tlodi, gorfodaeth, ffactorau tu allan i afael pobl - sydd angen ei gydnabod a’i galaru? Pa deimlad o ‘lle’ sy’n cael eu creu o dad-leoli cymuned (yn Neiniolen ac yn Llanbabo)? Sut teimlad ydy cyffwrdd y tir ble mae’n cyndadau yn dod o?

Dyma rhai o’r cwestiynnau hoffwn archwilio ac ymateb i - gyda help Rhys Mwyn, Bet Huws, a mwy - ac yn enwedig gyda help a chyfranogiad pobl Llanbabs!

Bwriadwn cynnal taith bws o Ddeiniolen i Lanbabo, yn ogystal a gweithdai a fydd yn rhoi cyfle i hel achau, dehongli’r hanes, ail-dychmygu profiad ein ‘cyndadau’, galaru mewn ffyrdd addas am unrhyw deimlad o golled sy’n codi, ac ymateb mewn ffyrdd creadigol i’r hyn rydan ni’n dysgu, er mwyn cyd-greu dehongliad ein hunan o’n hanes a’n dyfodol, sy’n dyfnhau ein gwreiddiau a grymuso ein hunaniaeth a gobaith.

Part of the roots of Deiniolen, Dyffryn Peris, derives from Llanbabo, Anglesey. It is an integral part of the unique identity of the village - and to this day, the people of Deiniolen call each other 'Llanbabs'! The reason for this is that many people originally came from Lanbabo to live in Deiniolen and to work in the Dinorwig quarry. It is likely that this happened at some point when there was great growth in the slate industry in Dyffryn Peris, and many jobs were available...

But what else is part of the story? Why did people want to leave their village and their home on Ynys Mon? Is there an element of this - e.g. poverty, coercion, factors beyond people's control - which needs to be recognized and mourned? What sense of 'place' is created from the relocation of a community (in Neiniolen and Llanbabo)? How does it feel to touch the land where our ancestors came from?

These are some of the questions I would like to explore and respond to - with the help of Rhys Mwyn, Bet Huws, and more - and especially with the help and participation of the people of Llanbabs! We intend to hold a bus trip from Deiniolen to Lanbabo, as well as workshops that will give an opportunity to gather genealogies, interpret the history, re-imagine the experience of our 'ancestors', mourn in suitable ways for any feeling of loss that arises, and respond in creative ways to what we learn, in order to co-create our own interpretation of our history and future, which deepens our roots and empowers our identity and hope.

Stones and Water: Cerrig a Dŵr

Living beside a holy well

This contribution will tell the story of the Holy Well of St Peris (Ffynnon Peris) and our experience of living beside it in what was once the well-keeper’s cottage (Tyn y Ffynnon).

This short piece of prose will speak about ancient stones, fresh water, gatherings for music at the well and baptisms conducted in it. Some of the many people who come to see the well, from different locations and widely varying motivations, will also feature, drawn as they are to Peris’s valley (Nant y Mynach) and this ancient place of healing.

Yn byw gerllaw ffynnon sanctaidd

Bydd y cyfraniad hwn yn adrodd hanes Ffynnon Sanctaidd Sant Peris (Ffynnon Peris) a’n profiad ni o fyw wrth ei hymyl yn yr hyn a fu unwaith yn fwthyn ceidwad y ffynnon (Tyn y Ffynnon).

Bydd y darn byr hwn o ryddiaith yn sôn am gerrig hynafol, dŵr croyw, cynulliadau ar gyfer cerddoriaeth yn y ffynnon a bedyddiadau a gynhelir ynddi. Bydd rhai o’r bobl niferus sy’n dod i weld y ffynnon, o wahanol leoliadau a chymhellion amrywiol iawn, hefyd yn ymddangos, wedi’u tynnu fel y maent i ddyffryn Peris (Nant y Mynach) a’r lle hynafol hwn o iachâd.

Yn y gaeaf, mae ein hymwelwyr yn cynnwys y geifr mynydd gwyllt sy'n aml yn ymgynnull wrth y ffynnon - gweler y llun!

Trwy eu Llygaid - Through their Eyes

Byddai’r prosiect yn golygu mynd â blwyddyn 7 i Lanberis er mwyn dysgu am hanes yr ardal ac am y chwedlau lleol sy’n gysylltiedig â’r tir. Byddai hyn yn golygu taith dywys gan hanesydd lleol trwy gyfrwng y Gymraeg a fydd yn rhoi cyfle i'r plant dychmygu gorffennol yr ardal. Tra ar y daith bydd disgyblion yn cael eu hannog i edrych ar eu hamgylchedd a dychmygu profiadau’r tir o'u cwmpas ar hyd yr oesoedd. Bydd gweithgaredd llafaredd fel cyfweld coeden neu nodwedd o’r dirwedd naturiol yn annog y plant i ymgolli yn hyn. Gallent archwilio cwestiynau, megis: Sut mae'r goeden yn teimlo? Pam mae un o'i ganghennau wedi'i difrodi? Beth mae'r goeden wedi'i weld? Sut mae'r goeden yn teimlo am y newidiadau y mae wedi'u gweld? Bydd y daith gerdded yn arwain at ardal (i’w phenderfynu) lle byddan nhw’n clywed straeon yn cael eu cyflwyno gan storïwr (efallai, yn ddwyieithog?) Anogir y plant i ail-ddychmygu’r straeon trwy lygaid cymeriadau amrywiol. Byddant yn gwneud ysgrifennu creadigol eu hunain wedi'u hysbrydoli gan ein gwlad a'n chwedlau pan fyddant yn ôl yn yr ysgol.

The project would entail year 7 pupils visiting Llanberis in order to learn about the history of the land and about the local legends connected to the land. This would entail a guided walk by a local historian through the medium of Welsh who will give the children an opportunity to glimpse into the past of the area. Whilst on the walk pupils will be encouraged to look at their surroundings and imagine what the land around them has witnessed and experienced through the ages. An oracy activity such as interviewing a tree or feature of the natural landscape will encourage the children to immerse themselves in this. They could explore questions, such as; How does the tree feel? Why is one of its branches damaged? What has the tree witnessed? How does the tree feel about the changes it has seen? The walk will lead to an area (to be decided) where they will hear stories presented by a story teller (perhaps, bilingually?) The children will be encouraged to reimagine the stories through the eyes of various characters’ perspectives. They will produce their own creative writing inspired by our land and legends when back in school.
