Invitation from Sarah Pogoda to join a Utopias Bach Theory Working Group

With more than 5 years of Utopias Bach practice in doing, growing, thinking, reflecting, we have established thorough methodologies. While our methodologies include reflection and critique, we are lacking an elaborated and distinctive theory that could be a communicative tool for us to talk about UB with beings who have not been part of our processes, yet. It also makes it difficult for us to compare UB with other art groups/collaboratives who will have developed their own distinctive methodologies. But through comparison (and distinction) we can learn more about ourselves and others.

Utopias Bach is thus inviting everyone to join a theory working group - a group that aims to develop a Utopias Bach theory, a theory that will be a tool for our learning, our communicating and our connecting.

What to expect in and between Theory Working Group meetings?

  • We will meet online or hybrid once a month (2nd week of each month).

  • We will share theories that have informed UB in the past 5 years.

  • We will engage with those theories through discussion and writing - and artistic responses.

  • We will co-create phrasing/wording that draws on the theories we have shared and discussed and that can be used to describe UB - its methodologies and its positioning (localising) within our local and global situation.

Please note: The ambition is not to prescribe one exclusive theory of UB but rather to create a theory-kit for everyone to use to find their own theoretical language to talk about UB with other beings, artists, cultural connectors – and maybe funders – locally, nationally and internationally.

Please reach out to Sarah Pogoda if you are interested in taking part (email Sarah by clicking here). First meeting is likely to happen in 2nd week of December. However date and time will be confirmed once expressions of interests are in.

Dissonant Laws Open call - invitation from Lucy Finchett-Maddock

As part of a new exhibition taking place at The Foundry, Vauxhall, early 2026, we invite artists, musicians, lawyers, advocacy groups, and agitators of all kinds, to send their submissions that respond to the theme of Dissonant Laws. This may include reflections on historic examples (such as rave culture and the ensuing CJA 1994), or new forms of creative resistance and dissonance that engage with current legislation and legality.

We are seeking work in the following formats:

  1. two dimensional works (prints, paintings, drawings, flyers, zines, posters, video works, etc.);

  2. Sound works that can be included in the space (on headphone) or uploaded to an accompanying online gallery;

  3. Text works (essays, articles, scores, manifestos, etc).

Extended deadline for submission 1st December 2025.

The exhibition takes place in collaboration with MEANS magazine (www.meansmagazine.com) and LORE (Legal Origins Rights Education & Art). The January issue of the magazine will be based on the theme of Dissonant Law, and submissions will be eligible to be presented in the physical magazine alongside the exhibition.
